Suzhou's Caixiang Market, reconstructed by CSCEC, has reopened with a brand-new "market + retail + community" concept. More than just a place for grocery shopping, the market now offers an immersive experience of everyday life in Suzhou.

Originally built in the 1980s, the Caixiang Market was once a neighborhood favorite and an early "internet-famous" marketplace in the city. Over time, however, outdated facilities and limited functionality became increasingly apparent. After more than a year of reconstruction, the market has been reborn on its original site.

The upgraded market reimagines the traditional marketplace through Suzhou-style aesthetics, transforming a routine shopping trip into a cultural experience. With a total floor area of 17,000 square meters, the complex features five above-ground floors and two basement levels.

On the second floor, a striking lightbox ceiling showcases classic Suzhou cuisine in a contemporary artistic format. Iconic local dishes are brought to life through light and shadow, offering visitors a visual encounter with the "flavors of Suzhou."

Throughout the market, Suzhou-themed art exhibitions, classical poetry, and silhouette designs of the city's landmarks create a rich cultural ambiance, blending refined local charm with the warmth of everyday life.

"Markets are not just places for transactions—they are extensions of community life." Guided by this philosophy, the project team conducted in-depth research into the needs of nearby residents and carefully designed spaces that cater to all age groups.

The market is equipped with barrier-free facilities, first-aid kits, AED devices, and emergency call systems. It also offers convenient services such as food preparation and cooking, free mobile charging, drinking water stations, and bicycle air pumps. Community-oriented spaces—including social lounges, family-friendly activity areas, and even pet rest zones—have been created, turning the market into a model "community hub."

To address parking challenges for local residents, the underground garage provides 80 car parking spaces and over 270 spaces for non-motorized vehicles, ensuring easy access whether by car or e-bike.
Following its renovation, Caixiang Market has been hailed by the media as "Suzhou's most beautiful market" and has become a popular social media hotspot. It now attracts an average of 20,000 visitors daily, with annual sales expected to exceed RMB 150 million. The project has also been selected as a 2025 model case for innovation and upgrading in China's retail sector.
