The Meththarama Drinking Water Supply Project built by CSCEC in Sri Lanka has recently been put into operation, providing stable and clean water to around 250 households.

"Fetching water used to take a lot of time. Now we just turn on the tap and the water flows," said 42-year-old resident Indumathi with a smile as clear water ran from her faucet.

Launched in January 2026, the project renovated the village's aging wells and basic distribution facilities while adding anti-contamination measures. CSCEC also built a 20,000-liter storage tank, laid about 3.6 kilometers of pipelines, and installed two high-pressure pumps to ensure a stable supply to every household.

The improved water system is expected to positively affect many aspects of daily life.

Local farmer Sunil said, his family used to worry about water shortages during the dry season. Now the water pressure is stable, and life feels much more secure. His children no longer need to help fetch water.

Nimra, a mother of three, recalled that villagers once had to queue for water, and shortages sometimes led to disputes. Now that each household has a direct connection, relations among neighbors have become more harmonious, she said.

With less time spent collecting water, farmers are able to devote more energy to agricultural production.

A reliable supply of clean water is also expected to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and improve local public health.

At the project's inauguration ceremony, CSCEC also donated school supplies to 80 students at a local school.
