The expansive open plains and thriving cattle herds are a testament to the prosperity of Botswana's livestock industry.
To enhance Botswana’s capacity for independent vaccine production and expand its capabilities, CSCEC has built the newly expanded laboratory at the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI). The construction team employed a modular design, allowing for swift deployment and flexibility in adapting to future expansion needs.
The new lab is equipped with flexible production facilities that can be adjusted to meet the demands of different vaccines, improving efficiency and adaptability. Additionally, the project includes the construction of advanced cold chain storage systems, featuring high-performance refrigerated warehouses and portable coolers. Harnessing Botswana's abundant sunlight, solar power systems have been integrated into the building's design to provide a stable energy supply.
Today, the new laboratory can produce over two million doses of vaccines annually, meeting local demand and supporting the expansion of exports. A BVI staff said that with this modern facility, they are confident that Botswana will become a hub for livestock vaccine production across Africa.
