It is located in the Tibet Autonomous Region and situated on the south bank of the magnificent YarlungTsangpo River. The airport is 58 kilometers away from Lhasa at an altitude of 3,600 meters. The new terminal building project is located to the west of the terminal building now in use, with a total area of 88,000 square meters, including an apron with 21 parking spots. The airport was put into operation in August 2021. It is expected that the airport will have an annual throughput of 9 million passengers by 2025, making it the provincial airport with the highest altitude in China and one of the largest high plateau airports in the world.
