On Jan. 27, entrusted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, premier of China’s State Council and head of the central leading group for tackling the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, arrived in Wuhan—the epicenter of the outbreak—to guide the containment efforts.
Premier Li visited the construction site of Huoshenshan Hospital in the morning. Built purposefully for treating patients with the novel coronavirus infections and containing the spread of the epidemic, the hospital was contracted to China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), with a 10-day completion period. He praised the workers’ efficiency and total commitment while pressing the urgency of the project. “The hospital is going to be an island of safety for patients,” Li said, urging them to spare no effort to win this race against time.
He also made inquiries about challenges and impediments to progress, stressing that any demand regarding materials and logistics support should be made directly to authorities, and the matters will be expedited by every possible means. He emphasized that Huoshenshan Hospital would be a care facility specialized in epidemic treatment and control, so safety and quality are of the highest importance. All workers on site responded to Premier Li’s requests with a firm and high-spirited “Yes, sir!”
Premier Li’s visit boosted the morale of the entire team. Chen Huayuan, chairman of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., said Premier Li’s visit conveyed the attention from the Communist Party of China and the State Council, adding that it was very reassuring and encouraging for the team. Chen Weiguo, president of the company, on behalf of the whole team, pledged to overcome all difficulties to deliver the project on time with good quality.
