The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway opened for operation on Dec. 30. China Construction Communications Engineering Group Corporation Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), was responsible for constructing the station buildings of the Zhangjiakou Station, the Xuanhua North Station, and the Xiahuayuan North Station.

The Zhangjiakou Station is the hub of three high-speed railway lines—the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Line, the Zhangjiakou-Datong Line, and the Zhangjiakou-Huhhot Line. The station would help to expand the travel radius of the residents living in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and Shanxi.

During the station’s construction, the team applied the BIM technology to realize accurate modeling, program simulation, and prefabrication. The main structure of the building was assembled on the ground, and was hydraulically lifted in four units to achieve seamless docking above ground. The process was precisely controlled by computer to lift a maximum weight of 1,300 tons.

The Zhangjiakou Station also features an intelligent lighting system that operates automatically around the clock to ensure that the lights are turned on or off as needed, and that the brightness level is adjusted accordingly to save energy. In addition, an intelligent control system was installed to monitor the temperature in real time, which automatically opens or closes the skylight and windows and controls the cooling and heating systems as required.

The station building of the Xuanhua North Station is designed with traditional Chinese flairs, and the Xiahuayuan Station will serve the Winter Olympics to facilitate athletes and staff of the Games to transfer between Beijing and Chongli.
