On August 8, the closing ceremony of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games took place at Chengdu Open Air Music Park designed by CSCEC. This marks the first instance where the closing spectacle of a world-class sports event is staged outdoors, outside the traditional sports arena.
The park stands as an iconic urban landmark centered around the theme of open air music. Encompassing an area of approximately 317,000 square meters, the park has the capacity to host open air concerts accommodating up to 40,000 spectators or semi-indoor concerts for 10,000 attendees, making it versatile enough to facilitate a wide range of large events.
The park's design draws inspiration from the theme of a phoenix spreading its wings, seamlessly harmonizing with the chosen location –Phoenix Mountain and the broader cultural tapestry of Chengdu.

The phoenix crown-shaped main stage
The main stage, fashioned like the crown of a phoenix, spans a construction area of 11,600 square meters. This distinctive, semi-outdoor, semi-indoor amphitheater design not only enhances the overall structural lateral resistance but also meets the requirement for numerous tetrahedral light boxes on the building facade, thereby achieving a harmonious architectural aesthetic.
The stage's curtain wall is assembled using modular units, minimizing on-site welding tasks and expediting construction progress on site.
Of particular note, the membrane within the canopy forms an immersive projection dome, encompassing an area exceeding 5,000 square meters.
Throughout the project's design, parameterized BIM architectural design technology was employed, ensuring the rationality and accuracy of structural design while significantly increasing efficiency.
