Recently, the 2022 International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Awards was held in Zurich, Switzerland. Shijiazhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center, invested, built and operated by CSCEC, won the only IABSE Award for Building Structures this year.
Shijiazhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center, the world’s largest exhibition hall featuring the cable-suspended structure, covers an area of 64.4 hectares and a floor space of 360,000 square meters. The overall building includes an exhibition center, a conference center, an entrance hall, a dining area, and a sightseeing tower. The project embodies the concept of low-carbon, ecological and intelligent construction and operation.
The cable-suspended structure applied in Shijiazhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center is currently the only structure in the world that has a reliable anti-progressive collapse mechanism with the largest span. The project has pushed the span of the structural system to 108m in an innovative way, much larger than the 45m span of such project in other countries. At the same time, the project has a number of pioneering designs, and its technical level has reached the international leading level.
Founded on October 29, 1929, the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering is the most authoritative international organization in the civil engineering industry. Since 1998, IABSE has set up the Outstanding Structure Award, and the competition in architectural structure awards is particularly fierce. A total of 16 architectural structure projects around the world have won the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award.
What’s more, Shijiazhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center also won the Structural Awards 2021 Commendation for Large-span Structures issued by the Institute of Structural Engineers, which is the most important structural design award in the world along with the IABSE Outstanding Design Award.
