The main structure of Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong Museum of Literature, Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Centre in Guangdong undertaken by CSCEC was capped on May 6.
Located in Liwan District of Guangzhou, the project covers a total construction area of 144,500 square meters, which consists of Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong Museum of Literature, Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Centre and affiliated projects.
It looks like a ship berthing at the shore of the Pearl River, symbolizing a "great ship" carrying treasure boxes full of culture and arts from south of the Five Ridges. The project was designed by a team from South China University of Technology, led by He Jingtang, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. With three square treasure boxes piling on each other, the project combines both the abstract form of freehand brush work and the rational geometric architectural design.
The project started in October 2020, and the main structure was fully capped on May 2022, lasting 566 days. After the main structure being capped, the project will start to build curtain walls and interior finishings and decoration, which will be completed in August 2023.
After completion, the project will be an international landmark public cultural facility with Guangdong characteristics, playing an important role in building Guangdong Province into a province with rich culture and enhancing its soft power in culture.
