CSCEC's museum projects in full progress

A museum is a social public institution that collects, keeps, displays and researches representative natural and human cultural heritage, and provides services for social development, learning, education, and entertainment. The International Museum Day, established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, falls on May 18 every year.

CSCEC has designed or built 24 museums, and as Museum Day approaches, let's take a look at some of the key projects.

History Museums

New Sanxingdui Museum

The new Sanxingdui Museum is located in the northeast corner of the core protection area of Sanxingdui Ruins Site, with a total area of about 75,000 square meters, and the total area of the new museum and visitor center is about 54,400 square meters. After completion, the new museum will form the Sanxingdui Museum Group together with the existing No. 1 and No. 2 pits, creating a world-class thematic museum with diversified and modern exhibition forms.

Keqiutou Ruins Museum

The Keqiutou Ruins Museum is a special museum that collects and displays the prehistoric culture of Fujian and Taiwan, and the origin and development of the Austronesians. The Keqiutou museum project is located in the Keqiutou Ruins, Pingtan, Fujian, with an aim to create a new model of "tourism + archaeology".

Miaodigou Yangshao Culture Museum in Sanmenxia

The museum is located in Sanmenxia, Henan province, with a total construction area of about 20,000 square meters. The construction of the museum is based on the Miaodigou culture and the excavation of the Miaodigou site.The main building of the museum is mainly located underground, showing the historical features of the Miaodigou site to the greatest extent.

Nanfan Museum

Nanfan Museum takes Hainan's characteristic "Nanfan" agricultural technology as the core, and uses green and smart technology to create a national-level seed industry technology display platform.

China Telecommunications Museum

The museum is located in Haidian District, Beijing, with a total construction area of about 20,000 square meters. It is a national level museum in the ommunications industry, which introduces China's communications development history and spreads the knowledge of telecommunication science and technology. CSCEC has undertaken the interior and exterior decoration projects of the museum.

National Maritime Museum

The museum is located in Tianjin, with a total construction area of 80,000 square meters. It is the first national-level comprehensive non-profit museum with the ocean as its theme in China. The project has fully reflected the construction concept of green and environmental protection, and adopted 28 energy-saving and environmental protection equipment and technologies to maximize the operation efficiency of equipment and reduce building energy consumption.

New Tibet Museum

The new museum, only two kilometers away from the Potala Palace, is a modern building that fully reflects the regional culture of Tibet. The design of the new building has fully respected the historical features of Lhasa, and adopted the golden roof scheme that continues the architectural feature of the old museum and has a strong Tibetan style. It is constructed with modern materials such as steel and glass, reflecting the sense of the times. As a national first-class museum, the Tibet Museum will launch original exhibitions with different contents and forms every year to showcase the long history of the Tibetan people and the unique and charming traditional culture.

Liaoning Provincial Museum

The museum was completed in June 2013 and is the largest provincial museum in China. The new Liaoning Provincial Museum project was awarded the 2014 Luban Prize, the highest honor for construction quality project in China.

Grand Bao'en Temple Museum

The museum is a national second-class museum, which opened on December 16, 2015. The total construction area is 60,600 square meters, including the site protection exhibition area, the historical exhibition area of theGrand Bao'en Temple, the Pagoda of the GrandBao'en(91.357 meters high), the South gallery temporary exhibition area and the Bao'en cultural experience area. It is anew historical and cultural landmark integrating modern technological innovation achievements.

Zhaojun Museum

The museum is the first museum in the world to record the history of the Xiongnu, or otherwise known as the Hun tribes,and also the first 5A-level tourist attraction in Hohhot. The museum was completed in August 2017, showing the history of Zhaojun and her story in promoting peace more than 2,000 years ago, and witnessing the development of the fusion of Han and Mongolian cultures.

Bengbu Museum

Themuseum was fully completed and put into use in early 2016. The project adopted a number of green design energy-saving and green construction measures, and used new energy-saving and environmentally friendly materials and processes, with obvious benefits in energy saving, noise reduction and environmental protection. The project was awarded the "National Construction Industry Green Construction Demonstration Project" and won the 2018-2019 "National Quality Project Award". As a landmark public cultural building in Bengbu, the project not only enriches the cultural life of locals, but also facilitates the daily life of residents through relevant supporting facilities.

Yichang Museum

The new building of Yichang Museum was completed in June 2019 and won the 2020-2021 China Construction Engineering Luban Award. With a collection of more than 30,000 cultural relics, it is a national first-class museum integrating education, collection, research, protection, exhibition and tourism. The project used a number of green energy-saving technologies such as solar panels and natural lighting, achieving great environmental protection benefits.

Guangxi Museum of Nationalities

The museum is a national first-class museum. It was completed in December 2008 and opened to the public free of charge on May 1, 2009. The shape of the main building of Guangxi Museum of Nationalities is based on the Guangxi bonze drum, which is rich in geographical and ethnic characteristics. The whole building looks like a roc spreading its wings. The museum has a collection of more than 50,000 pieces (sets), including 345 ancient bronze drums. It is the museum with the largest number and the most complete types of bronze drums in the world. The museum serves as a national cultural landmark in Guangxi.

Maritime Silk Road Museum in Fujian

The museum was delivered in June 2020. It has served as a new highland for inheriting and promoting the "Silk Road Spirit" and Chinese civilization, and promoting Chinese culture to the world and the future.

Qingdao Olympic Sailing Museum

The museum is an Olympic Sailing Museum with the theme of Olympic sailing competitions. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Sailing Competition was held in Qingdao, and the Olympic Sailing Center witnessed the birth of China's first Olympic gold medal in sailing and windsurfing. In order to better inherit the Olympic culture and Olympic spirit and protect the Olympic cultural heritage, Qingdao built this museum in the Olympic Sailing Center after relevant competitions.
