The renovation and expansion of the National Stadium undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has completed its first ice-making, making it ready for competitions. In addition to renovating the stadium's main hall to increase related functions, a new ice hockey training hall will be built on the north side of the stadium. After the renovation, the total area of the venue is about 98,000 square meters. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, the National Stadium will be used as the venue for men's ice hockey matches, some women's ice hockey matches and ice sledge hockey events.

The ice stadium

The stadium has been equipped with two standard ice rinks, each with a size of 1800 square meters. One is located in the main stadium for the 2022 Winter Olympics ice hockey events, and the other is in the stadium's expanded training hall for athletes' daily training. Both ice rinks are equipped with size conversion functions, which can not only meet the requirements of competitions, but also can be converted into an ice rink after the game, offering services for public ice activities, figure skating, daily training and various events. As the world's top event, the ice hockey competition in the Winter Olympics has very strict requirements for the venue, among which, the ice surface of the stadium should be extremely flat, bright and smooth.

The curved funnel-shaped screen

In order to heighten the atmosphere of the event and provide the audience a clear view, the National Stadium has installed a curved funnel-shaped screen above mid-court so that the referees and athletes could get game information timely via the screen.
