The Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, located at Jiaozhou City, Qingdao, is a regional hub airport, a national key project, and a gateway airport in Northeast Asia. It is designed according to the Level 4F standard, the highest international operation level, with a phase-1 construction area of 16 million square kilometers. After project completion, the new airport will be able to serve about 35 million passengers a year and handle about 500,000 metric tons of cargo.

The airport terminals are able to accommodate the world's largest commercial aircraft. For the first time, Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport has introduced high-speed rail and subway lines into the terminal buildings. It is a non-interchange comprehensive transportation hub integrating high-speed rails and subways.

The terminal buildings have reached the three green star building standard, the highest international standard, and taken the lead in introducing the concept of sponge city into the airport, creating the first sponge airport in China. The Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is also one of the first domestic airports to build independent energy centers, with a combined cooling, heating and power system. In terms of energy-saving efficiency, the comprehensive energy efficiency is over 90%.
