In recent years, China Construction Infrastructure Co., Ltd. (CCIC), a sub-enterprise of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), has hacked out a path of efficient and innovation-driven development by actively exploring new businesses, creating new models, breaking into new markets, and researching and developing new technologies.

Exploring new businesses

CSCEC’s very first general airport, which was independently invested, constructed, and operated by the corporation, is under construction in Shenmu city, Shaanxi province.

In seeking transformation and upgrading of infrastructure business in 2016, CCIC took general aviation as an innovative business opportunity to explore and advance toward a new model. It is now in negotiation with Qinghai, Hainan, and Sichuan provinces, aiming to promote the model of Shenmu General Airport further.

CCIC also established a development and research institute to study new businesses such as smart parking, station-city integration, and general aviation.

In smart parking, CCIC has built a coordination mechanism for industry chain, making breakthroughs in design, production, operation, management, and technology, laying a strong foundation for CSCEC’s next step of becoming a franchisee of urban parking. This year, CCIC won the bids to build the Shenzhen Guanlan Dashuikeng Comprehensive Parking Lot project and the Mount Fenghuang Comprehensive Parking Lot project. As to the business of station-city integration, CCIC has won the bid for Changchun Metro Line 6.

Creating new models

In April, the rebuilding and expansion project of the Shandong section of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway has finished the first phase. The expressway is the north-south transportation artery of the province. Upon completion, the new section will help to intensify the economic links among Shandong, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

In recent years, CCIC adopted a new model of introducing funds. With four projects in Shandong province including the Beijing-Taipei Expressway, it brought in investors, initiated big projects with small funds, and enlisted the cooperation of central enterprises. This helped to launch large expressway projects such as the Taihangshan Expressway and the Huaping-Lijiang Expressway with China Communications Construction Company, and the efforts have fueled the exponential growth of CCIC.

Breaking into new markets

The Ganjiang River Jinggangshan Avionics Hub project and the Jiujiang River Hongguang Dock project phase I, both invested by CSCEC, are under construction to rejuvenate the waterways of Ganjiang River and Poyang Lake.

CCIC pursues a strategy of diversification, actively breaking into new markets across Jiangxi, Gansu, Yunnan, and Guangxi provinces. It has won bids to construct major infrastructure projects of Nanning Metro Lines 2, 4, and 5 in Guangxi province, invested in and constructed the Huali Expressway and Zhaotong Culture and Sports Park, and contracted projects of alleviating poverty and building high schools in Yunnan province.

Researching and developing new technologies

In the process of developing projects, CCIC played a leading role in the development of infrastructure business by promoting technological innovations with great achievements. In the last two years, CCIC obtained 43 national patents and seven national software copyrights.

The achievements also include various awards. Zhengzhou Metro Line 3 was named a demonstrative project of science and technology of the 13th Five-year Plan, the Shenzhen Metro Line 9 project was nominated for the yearly tunneling project by International Tunneling Association, and won the first prize of the CSCEC Science and Technology Award for solving the technical problems of passing through the group pile foundation in the construction of shield tunnels.

In November 2019, CCIC launched the enterprise management system, which enables not only top-down supervision and regulation but also bottom-up communication.
