Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo Clement Mouamba inspected the operation of the country’s Route Nationale 1 (National Road No. 1) linking Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire from Sept. 13 to 14.
The construction of the road was contracted to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).
Mouamba was briefed on the business model of LCR project, road maintenance, and toll collection.
He visited the facilities for toll collecting, monitoring, and controlling, and also inspected the work of road maintenance, rescue and relief.
The prime minister spoke highly of the road operation, and said that the Route Nationale 1 plays a key role in the country’s economy and development. He stressed the routine maintenance work is mandatory to ensure the road’s smooth operation and extend its serviceable life.
He urged all ministries and governments at all levels to support the road’s toll-collection. He said government officials should set a good example in paying tolls to ensure toll collection. During the visit, the prime minister himself paid all the tolls for his convoy of cars.
Mouamba’s visit was accompanied by government ministers and officers, as well as senior executives of CSCEC Central and West Africa.
The visit was covered by major media outlets in the Republic of Congo.
