Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently visited the North East Link project, accompanied by Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King and Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan.
The project is built by a joint venture comprising CSCEC, Italy's Webuild, South Korea's GS E&C, and Australia's CPB. The project has a total length of 7.2 kilometers, including 6.5 kilometers of tunnels.
During the visit, Prime Minister Albanese visited the already-bored southbound TBM tunnel section, and received a briefing from on-site engineers regarding the launch of the twin TBMs.
He noted that the project is a major road infrastructure project in Victoria. Once completed, it will cut travel time by 35 minutes, remove 15,000 trucks from roads in the communities, and create thousands of jobs. It will significantly improve traffic efficiency in Melbourne. He expressed hope that the joint venture will leverage their respective strengths to ensure the project is delivered smoothly.
