Recently, the World Architecture Festival (WAF) announced the results of its 2023 global awards selection, with the Chongzhou Bamboo Weaving Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, jointly designed by CSCEC, winning the 2023 WAF WAFX Prize and being shortlisted for category awards.
Established in 2008, the WAF is one of the largest and most prestigious international events in the field of architecture. The WAF awards completed projects, future projects, and landscapes. WAFX is an independent award specifically for future projects, aimed at recognizing the most visionary architectural concepts and projects that have yet to be built in the world.
This project design aims to achieve a harmonious integration of architecture and local culture within a natural space. Spanning the highway, the elevated corridor connects spaces on the north and south sides, resembling bamboo leaves in overall form. The large overhanging eaves are designed to adapt to the climate of western Sichuan and provide visitors with gathering spaces and closer contact with nature.
The main structure of the building is wood-based, with locally abundant bamboo used as external decorative material. This design choice allows the entire structure to better blend into the natural environment of the village, while also being environmentally friendly and sustainable, showcasing future-oriented sustainability.
This innovative wood-based structural design contributes to the promotion of China's modern wooden and bamboo structure designs globally.
