On November 4, the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the main venue of the CIIE built with the help from CSCEC, attracted the world's attention again.

The four-leaf clover-shaped National Exhibition and Convention Center

In 2012, CSCEC constructed the second phase of the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai), which mainly includes 8 single units such as the C1 double-storey exhibition hall, the C0 office building, the D0 hotel and related supporting facilities. With a total construction area of 620,000 square meters, CSCEC's construction volume accounted for nearly half of the entire project. The team overcame many difficulties and successfully completed the project at the end of 2014. The project also won many awards, such as the Luban Prize, the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize and the China Steel Structure Gold Award, demonstrating CSCEC's leading building capacity of venues in China.

Let's learn what infrastructure and related services CSCEC has provided for this event.

Xumin Road, the east-west main thoroughfare that stretches to the National Convention and Exhibition Center, is an important road to enter the CIIE.

After the completion of its renovation at the end of September 2019, the 12-meter two-lane road was widened to a 32-meter four-lane road. All the wires are buried underground, and the wires for communication, electricity, signal and others are integrated. Flowers are planted in the middle of the road, and ginkgo trees are planted at both sides of the road, providing a beautiful landscape for the avenue.

The south side of the CIIE is to set up four parking lots, providing parking spaces for more than 300 buses and 2,000 small cars. The project team took one month to officially hand over the No. 5 temporary parking lot to the owner, ensuring the quality and construction speed of the project.

As an important channel for the comprehensive supporting facilities of the CIIE, the Lianmeihui project is an important channel of the CIIE underground. The construction area is only one wall away from the tunnel of Zhuguang Road subway station of Line 17, and the foundation pit is close to the sidewalk. With many underground pipelines and traffic channels around, the construction faces many difficulties.

The project team has significantly improved efficiency by independently developing a full set of construction techniques for clearing the underground foundation pit support. During the construction, the project team developed 16 construction techniques, some of which are the first of their kind in the industry. The successful opening of this underground passage effectively helped to alter the flow of 400 people/minute here during the CIIE, ensuring smooth traffic and greatly relieving the pressure of ground traffic.

It is the fourth time for Courtyard by Marriott, a subsidiary of CSCEC, to take on the task of providing accommodation for the CIIE this year. It provides warm services to the CIIE guests. Based on the flow of people in the CIIE, the hotel further upgraded its anti-epidemic measures. In addition to temperature measurement, health code and trip code checking, the hotel also prepared, at the front desk, small bottles of hands-free hand sanitizer, masks, tampons with disinfectant and other items for the guests.
