Recently, the list of the 2020 Luban Prize for Overseas Engineering was officially released, and Mozambique N6 National Road Reconstruction and Expansion Project was on the list. The project is built by CSCEC.

Mozambique N6 Reconstruction and Expansion Project is 287.3 km long, reaching Zimbabwe in the west and port of BEIRA in the east. It is an international channel connecting countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia and an important economic artery of Mozambique.

According to the project, 102 km of new roads were built and 185 km of roads were renovated and expanded. The effective construction time only lasts for 6 months for the prolonged rainy season from November to April each year. In order to solve the problems brought by long construction line and short effective construction period, two quarries, two asphalt stations, two aggregate mixing stations and three project camps were set up as the project progresses. At the same time, the staffing was increased, with 242 managers and 7,890 local workers employed during peak hours, eliminating the difficulty of short effective construction period.

There are 33 bridges across the line and 1 interchange. Meanwhile, the Penggui River Bridge, 228 meters in length, is the only suspension bridge in Mozambique. The bridge, located in the city of Beira, Mozambique, is a landmark building in Beira.

Ishampe overpass is both an international artery that connects Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia and the junction of the N1 and N6, two of the most important highways in Mozambique.

From the start of construction to its successful completion, Mozambique N6 Reconstruction and Expansion Project has provided employment opportunities for more than 8,000 people across the provinces and cities, including more than 600 technical jobs and more than 700 operators, which greatly improves the professional quality and working ability of local employees.

The project has been awarded the 2019 International Safety Awards set up by British Safety Council. With the completion of the N6 road, the journey from Mozambique's western border to the port of Beira has been cut from six hours to three, which greatly facilitate regional interconnection and stimulate the development of agriculture, tourism and other industries along the route. Now it has emerged as an important pillar of Mozambique's national economic development.
